Jackie Jones, 60, of Lewiston, passed away unexpectedly but peacefully, in her sleep Friday, Aug. 30, 2024.
Jackie was born in Peterborough, England. She moved to America with her parents, David and Hazel Jones when she was ten months old.
After attending kindergarten at Centennial Elementary in Lewiston, her education continued at Juliaetta Elementary and Kendrick Junior/Senior High School. There she developed many friendships with students and staff.
After graduation, she served a mission in South Carolina for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After returning home from her mission she contracted bacterial meningitis and lost most of her hearing as a result. This caused her many challenges through the years, but she persevered with determination and grace.
Jackie enjoyed playing games, crossword puzzles, taking care of her small rose garden, spending time at the ocean and enjoying her two dogs, Abby and Sporty. She was an avid fan of the Green Bay Packers and Gonzaga Bulldogs. She taught herself to crochet online and made numerous baby blankets for family and friends. Jackie loved hearing of the happenings of her nieces and nephews and other family members. She was blessed with great neighbors, friends and ministering sisters.
She also received good care from the staff at Sequoia Counseling Services.
She was married and divorced twice, before she found her soulmate of 24 years, Dennis Whetstine, who preceded her in death in February 2021.
Jackie is survived by her parents David and Hazel Jones, of Lewiston; brother Robert Jones (Katrina), of Lewiston, and brother Bryan Jones (Brittany), of Tonasket, Wash.; and their families, as well as numerous cousins and extended family.
A celebration of life for Jackie will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 28, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 3810 16th St., Lewiston. Those attending are encouraged to wear purple in honor of Jackie’s favorite color.
