Alvine was at home surrounded by loved ones when she passed peacefully into the loving arms of her Savior, Sunday, Nov. 17, 2024.
She was a spiritual person who had a great deal of faith in her Lord. Alvine was blessed to make the “Walk with Christ” in 2017, a program of spiritual awakening that solidified her bond with Christ.
She was born Sept. 20, 1935, to Alva Hazelbaker and Evelyn (Austin) Hazelbaker. She spent a lot of her childhood in Happy Hollow, near Grangeville, where she attended school.
She married Jack Katzenberger in February of 1952. Together they had five children. She and Jack later divorced in 1971.
She married Bob Woerman in 1977. They were married until he passed away in 2011. She married Paul McCarthy in 2013.
Alvine worked at the Lewis Clark Credit Union from 1976-78.
After attending courses at Walla Walla Community College, Clarkston Branch, Alvine was hired to work there as an office assistant in 1984. She then became the GED program examiner and remained employed there until she retired in the year 2000.
Alvine is survived by her husband, Paul, who remains at home; two daughters: Debbie Sammons (Bob), and Sandi Powell, both of Clarkston; two sons: Jack Katzenberger, of Clarkston, and Larry Katzenberger (Linda), of Olympia, Wash. Alvine had 11 grandchildren and several great and great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her youngest son, Kenny Katzenberger; both parents; and a brother, John Wesley “Buster” Hazelbaker.
There will be a graveside service at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 23, at Vineland Cemetery, 1141 Vineland Drive, Clarkston. Malcom’s Brower-Wann Funeral Home of Lewiston is in charge of arrangements.
