Our beloved husband and father passed away Friday, July 13, 2001, in Boise after living a full and robust life. Those who knew Cumer well said that what set him apart was intelligence ... courage ... vision ... vitality ... and love for family and friends -- but, most of all, he marched to the beat of his own drum.
He was born on Oct. 6, 1941, in Moscow, the son of Leon Grant and Gwen Pratt Green. After graduating from Moscow High School in 1959, he attended the University of Idaho, during which time he received a B.S. (accounting) in 1963, as well as an M.S. (accounting) and juris doctorate in 1969.
Upon graduating from the university in 1963 he practiced as a CPA for Presnell-Gage & Co. in Lewiston. Cumer commenced the practice of law in Boise in 1969 with Eberle & Berlin, eventually embarking on a solo practice in July 1971, focusing on civil/commercial litigation, tax litigation, real estate development and litigation/education law. In addition, he served as commissioner and president of the Idaho State Bar from 1995-1998.
In addition to practicing law, he and his wife, JoAnne, own and operate a successful commercial nursery operation, The Green Ranch and Tree Farm. The Ranch, as it was known, was one of his greatest passions. With the help of his wife and family, he created a refuge -- a sanctuary where family and friends gathered to celebrate life and create memories. He enjoyed cooking, socializing with peers and friends, jogging and spending time with his five children and nine grandchildren.
Cumer was a dedicated and loving father, husband and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his mother, Gwen; and survived by his wife of 27 years, JoAnne; father, Dr. Leon Green; sister, Diane Gwen Bjarnson; sons, Cumer Scott, Clifford Leon, Stephen Grant, Michael Christian; and daughter, Holly Lynn Melcher.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Leon G. Green Parks and Recreation Scholarship, University of Idaho College of Education.
