A fire at a Lewiston apartment caused electrical damage and resulted in one person receiving minor injuries.

The Lewiston Fire Department responded at 11:01 a.m. Thursday to 2525 Eighth St. for a report of smoke in the building. The first unit to respond saw smoke coming from an apartment on the second floor of the multistory unit. Light smoke was also coming from the third floor, according to a news release from the fire department.

Fire crews determined the fire began in the apartment on the first floor, below the unit where smoke was visible. Crew attacked the fire from the first and second floors simultaneously from opposite sides of the building. The third floor was also checked and the fire was found to be in the wall, according to the new release.

One person had minor injuries with a recommendation to go to the hospital for treatment, according to the news release.

The estimated damage to the building is $50,000. The apartment also suffered electrical damage, so the 12 apartments in the building will be temporarily without power. The American Red Cross was contacted to assist those who might be displaced.

Twenty-eight personnel responded to the fire including three engines, one ladder truck, three investigators and three chief officers from Lewiston Fire Department; a chief officer and engine from Asotin County Fire; and engines from Clarkston Fire and Wheatland Fire Protection District, according to the news release.
