Valley Duplicate Bridge Club

Members met for their regular games at the Masonic Lodge in Lewiston during the month of July. The first and second place winners were:

July 4 - Marilyn Bengtson and Ken Taylor, first place; Rosemary Lukens and Dode Heartburg, second place.

July 11 - Dolores Glenny and Mary Evans, first place; Irene and Bill Dunn, second place.

July 19 - Larry Kirkland and Jim Jurgenson, first place; Mary and Keith Ralstin, second place.

July 25 - Margie Johnson and Joy Jones, first place; Ann Smith and Mary Blanton, second place.

Lewiston Orchards Kiwanis Club

There were 16 members and one guest in attendance at the group's Aug. 12 meeting.

The "happy/sad basket" was passed and each member reported on the preceding week.

The Autism Committee met at Opportunities Unlimited Wednesday and one of the weighted vests purchased by the club for use by autistic children was passed around for inspection.

Ground breaking for the disc-golf course will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Sunset Park.

Members will sell pecans as a fundraiser at Alive After Five in Clarkston from 5 to 9 p.m. Sept. 2. Worker sign-up sheets will be distributed at the next meeting.

The next board meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Sept. 8 at Marion Shinn's home.

New officer installation will be at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 24.

Detective Brian Birdsell, a member of the major collisions investigation team for the Lewiston Police Department, explained the formulas and procedures that are employed to reconstruct accident scenes.

Members also met Wednesday when reports were given about the group's various projects.

Pete Gertonson, Tom Dahlin and Jim Walker attended an inter-club with the Lewiston-Clarkston club.

Lynette Keany thanked the club for purchasing children's vests for the autism center.

Three members attended the District Convention in Medford, Ore., last week and Laura Hughes and Noel Abbott reported on the awards won by the club including Outstanding Club, Distinguished President Tracey Riener, and Distinguished Secretary Marion Shinn.

The Disc Golf Committee displayed a map of the course.

Members began to sign up for shifts to work at the Lewiston Roundup for the group's annual fundraiser.

The next meeting is 7 a.m. Wednesday in Room 143 of the Lewis-Clark State College Student Union Building.

Twin Rivers Toastmasters Club

At the group's Aug. 4 meeting, new member Chris Rodgers presented her first speech titled "It's My Life." It was evaluated by Cathy Wilson.

Tim McConnell evaluated Maria Lacey's speech titled "The Circles Effect." Rodgers and Tim McConnell won the best speaker and evaluator trophies respectively.

Rie Walker was the general evaluator and humorist, Mark Havens was the timer, Tim McConnell was toastmaster, Wilson served as grammarian and Kelly McConnell was the table topics master. Walker, Havens, and Kathy Renggli tied for best table topics.

Renggli served as toastmaster for the first time at the club's Aug. 11 meeting. Wilson evaluated Kelly McConnell's dramatic reading of "The Owl, the Bull and the Forest." Walker evaluated Lacey's speech called "Year Around School Promotes Improved Academic Performance." Kelly McConnell and Wilson won the best speaker and evaluator trophies.

Tim McConnell was the general evaluator, and Havens was the grammarian and quiz master. Rodgers was the timer and Thad Brinkley was the table topics master. Rodgers won the table topics trophy.

Lewis-Clark Toastmasters Club 369

Members met Aug. 13 at Lewiston's Congregational-Presbyterian Church with two guests attending.

Tom Eier was toastmaster, Kent Barnett was grammarian, table topics master was Jacqueline Picard, general evaluator was Larry Ferguson and invocation/timer was Patti Mann.

Pete Gertonson gave a speech titled "The $500 Pea Pod" and was evaluated by Ferguson. Mann gave a speech titled "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" and was evaluated by Randy Smith.

Best speaker was Mann, best evaluator was Smith and best table topics trophy went to Ferguson.

Toastmasters will be at the welcome-back event at Lewis-Clark State College to explain how Toastmasters can help students.

Lewis-Clark Retirees

Members met Aug. 12 at Jack in the Box in Lewiston with President Corky Luther presiding.

The treasurer's report was given. A moment of silence was observed for those who have died, those who could not attend and for the men and women serving in the armed forces.

Food donations were taken to the Salvation Army.

Everyone in attendance was awarded a door prize, because this was a breakfast gathering in lieu of the annual picnic.

The next meeting is Sept. 9 at the union hall.
