March 6 workshop to cover broadleaf weed managment
OROFINO - A workshop to help small-acreage landowners in the Clearwater Valley deal with broadleaf weeds is set for 7 to 9:30 p.m. next Tuesday at the University of Idaho extension office here, 2200 Michigan Ave.
The class, which costs $15 per person, is titled "Common Broadleaf Weeds of the Clearwater Valley & How to Control Them" and aims to help landowners identify weeds and the affect they have on livestock grazing and pasture, as well as rangeland productivity. The best time of year to treat for such weeds and what types of herbicides are most effective also will be discussed.
Sign-in for the program, which is limited to 24 people, begins at 6:30 p.m. Anyone wishing more information or to register may contact the extension office at (208) 476-4434 or email clearwater@uidaho.edu.
Field days for youth planned for March in Lewiston and Asotin
Two livestock field days aimed at youth in the region are planned for March by University of Idaho and Washington State University Extension.
Topics covered at each event include health care, quality assurance, feeding and nutrition, selection of project animals, low stress handling, fitting and showing.
A Youth Beef Field Day will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 17 at the Lewiston Livestock Market.
A Youth Swine Field Day will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. March 24 at the Asotin County Fairgrounds in Asotin.
The cost for each field day is $8, which includes lunch and handouts. Registration is recommended at least one week prior to each field day.

Rural management help aimed at beginning landowners offered in Orofino
OROFINO - "Rural Land Ownership: Strategies for Management," a workshop aimed at beginning landowners, will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. March 15 at the University of Idaho/Clearwater County Extension office here, 2200 Michigan Ave.
Sign-in begins at 5:30 p.m. and cost is $15 per person.
Bill Warren of UI Extension will lead the workshop in two parts, with a 15-minute break at 7:15 p.m. It will include strategies for the long-term management of rural property.

Workshop will help farmers and ranchers plan for the next generation
A workshop aimed at helping farmers and ranchers plan for succession of their land to the next generation is planned for March 20, 23 and 28 at the Red Lion Hotel in Lewiston.
The University of Idaho/Lewis County Extension will offer "Keeping the Legacy Alive: Working Together for a Better Future." The workshop will be 1 to 5 p.m. March 20 and 23, and 4:30 to 9 p.m. March 28.

Cost for the workshop is $40 per person, and includes handouts, a copy of the Spechts' book, snacks and a dinner.

UI extension to offer workshop on private applicator licensing in Nez Perce
NEZPERCE - The University of Idaho/Lewis County Extension plans to hold a two-day workshop called "Prairie Private Applicator Training and Testing" in the community room of the Nezperce Library here.
The classes will be from 9 a.m. to noon Wednesday and Thursday with the testing to be offered Friday for those who wish to obtain a private applicator licence.
The course is offered in Lewis County every other year.
There is no fee to participate, but those wanting to take the test are being asked to contact the Lewis County Extension Office at (208) 937-2311 and register.
