North-central Idaho’s first cool-colored patrol cars are being operated by Officers W. Gordon Jones of Lewiston who received the Pontiac, Carl Riggs of Grangeville and Bert McGinnis of Orofino. They replaced older model Dodge and Chrysler vehicles.

A white map outline of the state and a state police designation mark the doors of the new vehicles.

COLFAX — A drive to raise $600,000 toward construction of a new hospital for Whitman County to replace the one built 71 years ago started here Monday after six weeks of meetings and planning.

Co-chairmen Don Scheideman of Lacrosse and Ron Dube of Rosalia are heading the drive to get donations of cash, three-year pledges or “any type of contribution” from all areas of the county except Pullman, Palouse, Tekoa and Rosalia.

Pullman and Palouse are served by the Pullman Memorial Hospital, while Tekoa and most of the Rosalia area are served by Spokane.
