MOSCOW — Moscow Mayor Fred Handel broke a tie vote Monday night to give approval to a new beer licensing ordinance for the city.
The ordinance provides for the limitation of the number of outlets for on-premises consumption of beer to one for every 1,500 residents. Moscow currently has 22 establishments within the city which have beer licenses for on and off-premises consumption, including seven grocery stores, six taverns, six cafes and three fraternal organizations.
The passage by a 4-3 vote will permit two in the on-premises group. The new ordinance also affects the transfer of beer dispensing in the city.

The city of Lewiston’s new fire engine is westward bound in a railroad boxcar and is tentatively scheduled to arrive here Saturday.
Fire Chief Leonard Ellis, who is receiving bulletins on the 1,000-gallon per minute pumper truck’s trip from Allentown, Pa., said arrival time at Kansas City, Mo. was to be at 1 a.m. today.
The cross-country trip began Friday from the Mack Truck Co. plant at Allentown. The pumper is rigged to carry ladders and hose. It will replace a reserve unit which was sold several months ago to the village of Deary.
