A wildfire in Whitman County along the northern breaks of the Snake River was sparked Wednesday afternoon and is estimated to have burned 1,000 acres, according to Washington officials.
The Long Hollow Fire started at about 4 p.m. Wednesday. State firefighting resources were mobilized at 10 p.m. Wednesday and levels 2 and 3 evacuation orders are in place for those in the area of the fire.
"This fire is estimated at 1,000 acres and growing," according to a news release from the Washington State Fire Marshal's Office. "It is burning in grass and brush and is threatening homes, crops, and rangeland."
The fire is downriver from Almota on the north side of the river and Illia Dunes on the south side of the river.
Two strike teams, a hand crew and a bulldozer have been dispatched to fight the fire, according to the news release. State Fire Marshal’s Office personnel will be at the scene and working remotely to coordinate the dispatch of resources.
