LOS ANGELES - Washington State freshman Greg Hornsby won both the men's 100- and 200-meter races Friday at the Rafer Johnson/Jackie Joyner-Kersee Invitational at UCLA's Drake Stadium.
Hornsby won the 100 in a time of 10.69 seconds, and came back to claim the 200 in 21.51.
WSU sophomore J Hopkins won the men's 400 hurdles in 52.96 while Veronica Elseroad-Wall took the women's version of that race in 1:01.09.
Cougs make academic team
WOODLAND, Calif. - The Mountain Pacific Sports Federation named 18 women and nine men from the Washington State track and field team as Academic All-MPSF Scholar-Athletes.
The WSU female athletes honored were Mandi Dionne, Ashlee Wall, Chelsea VanDeBrake, Carly Fitzpatrick, Michelly Foley, Kendall Mays, Amanda Stewart, Lisa Egami, Caroline Hedel, Hilary Moore, Emily Farrar, Loreah Winlow, Cassie Whitfield, Ashley Kenney, Jacki Hill, Jalisa Williams, Veronica Elseroad-Wall and Jennifer Hamilton.
The male athletes from the Pullman school were Justin Englund, Trevor Sodorff, Jake Baertlein, Ezra John Griffey, Ian Smith, Jason Stoker, Dan Geib, Peter Miller and Joe Bartlett.
