Shumway is 'Heisman' winner for Idaho preps

Kyler Shumway of Prairie High, a standout football lineman and shot-putter, was the Idaho boys' winner in the Wendy's High School Heisman Award competition this year.

The annual award, established in 1994, recognizes prep seniors who excel in athletics, academics and in the community.

The Idaho girls' winner was Kali Roche of Parma, and the national winners were Malia Cali of Hammond, La., and Kyle Pollock of Wiggins, Colo.

Among the Idaho state finalists were Damon Leitch of Nezperce, Jonathan Paul of Clearwater Valley and Pam Holman of Grangeville.

Shumway is an all-state Class 1A lineman in football and a two-time defending state 1A shot-put champion with a top throw of 60 feet, 01/2 inches.
