KAMIAH -- Ellen Rouse has nabbed state titles in the 100, 200 and shot put. So why not try out the discus?

The Orofino junior, who recently took up the second throwing event, outdistanced Breanne Baird of Kamiah by close to four feet to win the girls' discus competition at the 15-team Clearwater Invitational on Saturday.

Rouse also won titles in her usual events -- the 100, 200 and shot. She edged Prairie's Nicole Nida in both sprints.

Led by Kendra Loeber, who won the 1,600 and 3,200, the Grangeville girls easily took home a team title.

McCall-Donnelly ran away with the boys' title, winning by 41 points over Nezperce.

Potlatch's Ondrea Palmer and freshman Chelsea Lundgren of Orofino both posted 16 feet, 5 1/2 inches in the long jump, area bests this year by more than a foot. Palmer won the event with a longer second jump.
