MOSCOW - With the game on the line, Griffin Rod's instructions to Theo Howard were simple: Keep calm, get out of the inning and don't throw the ball in the dirt.
Two out of three was enough to get it done.
Howard's very next pitch to Lewiston's Hayden Woods went into the ground, but the following throw made contact with Woods' bat, hung in the air, then landed in the glove of centerfielder Duke Richardson to seal the Moscow Blue Devils' 5-4 win and a doubleheader sweep of their legion foe.
Howard's complete game was the perfect encore to the one Devin Carscallen threw in their first victory, a mercy-rule shortened 11-1 blowout Wednesday evening at the Moscow School District Community Playfields.
"We got a tough run in front of us, so the fact that those guys came out and threw respective complete games was awesome heading into tomorrow's tough games against Orofino," Rod said, looking ahead to today's 5 p.m. doubleheader at Bear Field.
