BOISE -- Lapwai native Gordy Presnell, who has coached the Seattle Pacific women's basketball team for the past 18 seasons, has been hired to take over Boise State's women's program, the school announced Friday.

Presnell led SPU to the NCAA Division II tournament in 11 of the last 12 years. This past season, the Falcons lost to Washburn (Kan.) in the national title game -- their best finish ever.

Presnell's coaching career began at Lapwai High. He was an assistant with the 1984 boys' team that won the Idaho Class A-3 title. He then was an assistant with the Kendrick High boys' team that claimed the A-4 championship in '85.

He took over SPU's women's team in 1987. He went 396-127 with the Falcons.

Presnell graduated from Northwest Nazarene in Nampa in 1983, then earned a master's degree at SPU in '89.

Presnell will replace Jen Warden, who in three seasons at BSU compiled a 29-59 record. She accepted a coaching job at Colorado State University in early May.
