MOSCOW - Riley Swanson struck out 12 hitters in the first game of Clarkston's doubleheader against Moscow, and the Bantams had 15 hits in the nightcap in a nonleague sweep of the Bears on Thursday in prep softball.

The scores were 4-2 and 19-4.

Swanson went the distance in the first game, and Emma Sandaine went all five innings in the following contest, which was shortened by the 10-run rule.

Bailie Copeland finished with six hits on the day to lead Clarkston (4-1), including a two-run homer.

"We played excellent today," Clarkston coach Shaun O'Kelley said. "Riley and Emma both pitched solid games, and we got a lot of hits by a lot of different players."

Kaitlyn Krasselt had three hits to lead Moscow.

An error-prone first game haunted Lewiston in the first game of an Inland Empire League twinbill against Post Falls, but the Bengals bounced back to take down the Trojans in the second game.

The Bengals commited nine errors in an 11-3 loss, but freshman Karlee Wilson went 3-for-3 with three RBI to help the Lewiston grab a split in the nightcap.

Lunden Young went the distance on the bump for Lewiston (9-4, 1-3).

"Our errors late in the first game really hurt us," Lewiston coach Dave Garrett said. "But in the second game our defense was solid. Lunden threw a good, complete game."

Nicole Redd tallied three hits on the day, including a triple.

PULLMAN - Pullman was plagued by errors in the first game, but bounced back to win in the nightcap of a Great Northern League twinbill against West Valley.

West Valley tallied 10 hits in the first game and took advantage of the Greyhounds' eight errors. The Eagles also had eight miscues in the contest, but they scored four runs in a crucial sixth inning.

In the nightcap, though, Jordan Levenseller paced the Greyhounds, going 3-for-3 while stealing two second bases. Jenna Kincaid and Kaycee Perisho were efficient on the mound, and the Greyhounds secured the triumph thanks to a four-run second inning.

"The weather was pretty tough on both teams," Pullman coach Tara Briggs said. "There were a lot of errors in the first game, but in the second game we hit the ball well and Jenna and Kaycee did a good job pitching."

Pullman is now 4-3 and 1-1 in GNL play.

BASEBALL

Grangeville 21, Kendrick 8

JULIAETTA - Grangeville's Tanner Key hit for the cycle as the Bulldogs pounded out 18 hits on their way to a Central Idaho League win.

The second game of the doubleheader was suspended in the bottom of the third due to darkness. Kendrick was ahead 9-3 at the time, and the game will be finished at a later date in Grangeville.

Key ended up with seven RBI in the first contest, and Justin Robie and Isiah Hartman each had three hits for the Bulldogs - including a homer from Hartman.

Grangeville is now 2-2 overall and 1-0 in league play.

DEER PARK - Pullman didn't use the wind to its advantage in the first half against Deer Park, but the Greyhounds exploded for four goals after halftime to claim a Great Northern League victory.

Despite having the wind in its favor to start the game, Pullman fell behind in the 11th minute. But the Greyhounds got a goal from Kevin Spangenberg a few minutes before halftime and then scored two more in the opening minutes of the second period.

"We had momentum going at the right time," Pullman coach Doug Winchell said.

Deer Park made it 3-2 soon after, but Pullman scored goals in both the 67th and 68th minutes to seal the victory.

Spangenberg ended up with a hat trick for the Greyhounds, who improved to 4-4 overall and 4-2 in GNL play.

CHENEY - The Clarkston Bantams endured a rough second half as they tumbled to a road loss against Cheney, making them 3-4 overall and 2-4 in Great Northern League Play.

Coach Mike Alfred said his team had some scoring opportunities in the first half, but Clarkston didn't take advantage and then allowed four Cheney goals after halftime.

"We just kind of had a rough second half, kind of lost our focus I think," Alfred said.

Hounds brave elements

LIBERTY LAKE - Pullman's girls braved the elements and finished fourth out of 14 teams at Meadowood Golf Course in Liberty Lake.

Paige Whidbee topped 100 for just the third time in prep her career, shooting a 101, but managed to finish sixth out of 60 golfers to lead the Greyhounds.

The tournament was halted due to strong winds and hail but eventually resumed under wet conditions.

COLFAX - Inclement weather forced the postponement of baseball and softball doubleheaders between Colfax and Reardan.
