GIRLS' BASKETBALL: Trojans slip past Culdesac in OT

CULDESAC - Led by Tai Jensen, Troy regrouped from a scoreless third quarter and poor free-throw shooting to withstand Culdesac in overtime, winning 36-32 in a girls' basketball game Tuesday night.

Jensen scored a game-high 16 points for the Trojans, who went 8-for-25 from the foul line. Culdesac, meanwhile, made 4 of 17 free-throw attempts.

Tanasha Smith grabbed six rebounds for the Trojans. Jensen added four boards.

GENESEE - Filling in for injured starter Erin Ghigleri, freshman Brooke Dahmen had six steals, four assists and just one turnover in her first varsity start to help Genesee scoot by Lakeside of Plummer in a nonleague game.

Kelsie Gartner and Nikki Long both reached double figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively, for the Bulldogs, who took control in the second quarter by outscoring the Knights 13-2.

The Bulldogs played without Ghigleri (foot), Julia Sobczyk (jaw operation) and Amy Quint, who's out for the year with a knee injury.

Post Falls, playing its fourth game, outscored the Bantams 25-9 in the fourth quarter.

Kellie McCann-Smith had 17 points, eight rebounds and six steals for the Bantams, who trailed by nine at halftime and by 12 entering the final period.

The Bulldogs forced 19 CV turnovers, with Pam Holman leading the way with five steals. Stevie Isaac ripped down seven rebounds for Grangeville.

Katrina Roberts led CV with 13 points.

HERMISTON, Ore. - Hermiston had the touch from long range, draining 10 3-pointers in a nonleague victory over Lewiston.

Hermiston's Shonie Schimmel led all scorers with 26 points, while Kiki Edwards-Teasley led the Bengals with 18 points.

OROFINO - Despite a huge discrepancy at the free throw line, Orofino edged Timberline of Weippe-Pierce to pick up its first win of the season.

While Timberline went 14-for-22 from the line, the Maniacs received only two free throw attempts - and missed them both.

Kali Pattan had 12 points for Orofino, which had lost 30-21 to Timberline two weeks ago.

Timberline's Kayla Hodges led all scorers with 18 points.
