PULLMAN - Emily Drake scored 24 points and the Pullman girls' basketball team needed every one of them to defeat Cheney 43-42 in a Great Northern League battle that showcased a defensive third quarter for the Greyhounds.

Holding the visitors to just four points in the third period, Pullman snagged a one-point lead entering the fourth quarter and made it stand as the Greyhounds improved to 2-1 in league and 7-5 overall.

While Pullman shot only 24 percent from the field, Drake's four treys and Pullman's defense - which forced 20 turnovers - helped negate that weakness.
