Former Washington State basketball player Aaron Haskins died in his sleep early Monday morning, according to an e-mail message posted by his wife on a church Web site. He was 49.

Haskins, who played for the Cougars from 1979 to '83, was a pastor at The City Church of the Seattle area.

"He was a wonderful and loving husband, an amazing father of three, and grandfather of four," Cheryl Haskins wrote in her e-mail. "A fabulous pastor, a faithful brother to eight siblings, loving son, a mean saxophone player. He was an inspiration to so many people around the world."

Her e-mail included no cause of death.
