WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

PULLMAN - It would have been sweet. It would have been unprecedented.

But Washington State's bid to defeat Stanford in women's basketball Sunday ended in overtime. The No. 15 Cardinal erased an 11-point deficit in the second half and pulled out an 86-76 win to extend their all-time record against the Cougars to 58-0.

Stanford (12-4, 4-0) waited until overtime to assert its usual dominance over WSU as Amber Orrange hit a jumper and fed Kaylee Johnson for an uncontested layin, which was followed by a 3-pointer by Lili Thompson. The final margin was 15-5 in the extra period.

Orrange finished with 19 points to lead six Stanford scorers in double figures, with Bonnie Samuelson adding 18 points and Johnson racking up 13 points and 15 rebounds.

Tia Presley paced the Cougars (10-5, 1-3) with 23 points and Lia Galdeira contributed 18 points, seven rebounds and six assists.
