Men's basketball

> Idaho at Montana

Tipoff: 6:05 PST tonight, Dahlberg Arena, Missoula, Mont.

Records: Idaho 1-1 overall, 0-0 Western Athletic Conference; Montana 1-1 overall, 0-0 Big Sky Conference.

Players: Deremy Geiger produced 19 points, five assists, three steals and no turnovers in the Vandals' 77-61 win over Concordia on Monday night. Montana guard Will Cherry was a first-team All-Big Sky pick last year, and 7-foot Derek Selvig was an honorable mention. Selvig was injured in an exhibition game against Lewis-Clark State and saw no action in the Grizzlies' first two regular-season contests.

Game themes: No doubt prominent in the Vandals' consciousness is avoiding whatever sort of meltdown led to their bewildering 75-33 loss at Missoula a year ago. They fared much better against the Griz later in a 64-63 loss at Moscow, but they haven't won at Dahlberg since 1999. Wayne Tinkle's Grizzlies, trying to fill the void left by graduated post Brian Qvale, lost at Colorado State before beating Great Falls on Monday night.

> Sacramento State at Washington State

Tipoff: 7:05 PST tonight, Beasley Coliseum, Pullman.

Records: Sacramento State 2-0 overall, 0-0 Big Sky Conference; Washington State 0-1 overall, 0-0 Pac-12 Conference.

Players: Junior forward Brock Motum did his best Klay Thompson impression tallying a team-high 17 points and eight rebounds in the Cougars' 89-81 season-opening loss to Gonzaga on Monday. Guards Reggie Moore (14 points), Mike Ladd (13), Faisal Aden (12) and DaVonte Lacy (11) all reached double figures for Washington State. In two games this season, Sacramento State's Joe Eberhard, Walter Jackson and John Dickson are all averaging at least 11.5 points per game.

Game themes: After giving 23rd-ranked Gonzaga a run for its money on Monday, the Cougars will look to notch their first win of the season when the Hornets pay a visit to Beasley Coliseum for Washington State's home opener. With wins over Menlo of the NAIA and Central Arkansas, Sacramento State is 2-0 for the first time since the 2000-01 season. Washington State, however, has won seven straight over the Hornets, including a 84-36 thrashing in Pullman last November.

Women's basketball

> Gonzaga at Idaho

Tipoff: 6 tonight, Memorial Gym, Moscow

Records: Gonzaga 1-1 overall, 0-0 West Coast Conference; Idaho 1-1 overall, 0-0 Western Athletic Conference.

Players: The Bulldogs from Spokane have four players averaging in double figures, led by 6-foot-3 Kayla Standish at 14.0 ppg. True freshman Shelby Cheslek of Pullman has yet to see action for Gonzaga. Assertive freshman guard Stacey Barr has come off the bench to average 15 points in the Vandals' two games, hitting seven 3-pointers.

Game themes: Kelly Graves, the Bulldogs' successful 12th-year coach, aims for the 300th win of his 14-year head-coaching career. The Zags, losing five seniors from the charmed team that advanced to the Elite 8 of the NCAA tournament, tumbled 76-61 on Sunday at Stanford. The inexperienced Vandals are trying to shake off a 30-point loss Monday night at North Dakota.
