After falling behind by two runs over the first three innings, the Asotin County Blues roared ahead in the middle of the game and beat the Lewis-Clark Cubs 7-2 during Thursday's first round of action in the Clancy Ellis Memorial Tournament at Harris Field.

The American Legion baseball tournament will continue today with five games, starting at 9 a.m.

The Blues (12-17-1) were down 2-0 before cracking the scoreboard with one run in the fourth. Then they took to lead for good in the fifth, as Tanner Berzett and Brady Chadwick singled, followed by Grant Kinzer's two-out, two-run double to the base of the wall in left-center.

Asotin County padded its lead in the sixth with four runs. Dalton James led off that inning with a single, and Cam Bean followed with a two-run single.

Bean finished with two hits, two stolen bases and a run scored. The Blues also get two hits apiece from Chadwick, Kinzer, James and Elliott Marks.

Chadwick, the Blues' pitcher, went the distance and allowed six hits while striking out eight. He held the Cubs scoreless over the final four innings.

"He's been the guy that's pitched every big game for us, and once again didn't let down," Blues coach Perry Black said of Chadwick.

The Cubs (10-11) got solid pitching from Coy Stout and great defensive play from third baseman Levi Speer, according to Black.

But it was a disappointing loss for the Cubs, who had beaten the Blues 17-3 on Tuesday.
