EUGENE, Ore. — Paul Ryan completed the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3 minutes, 39.12 seconds at the Olympic trials on Friday at Hayward Field.

Ryan, a former Logos High School (Moscow) and Washington State track standout who races professionally for Adidas, finished 10th in the second heat.

Nike’s Cole Hocker won the event with a time of 3:34.54.

Ryan’s time placed him 29th overall among 38 competitors. He will not advance to the finals.

This is Ryan’s second time competing at the Olympic trials. In his last time competing at the trials in 2021, Ryan had a time of 3:45.86.

WSU’s Walburn 10th place through Day 1 of decathlon

EUGENE, Ore. — Former Washington State decathlete Lee Walburn finished the first half of the Olympic trials decathlon in 10th place with 4,078 points at Hayward Field.

Walburn, who finished his college career as an All-American with the Cougars this spring, finished 10th in the shot put (47 feet, 6 inches), seventh in the high jump (6-6) and seventh in the 400 (48.44).

Walburn will finish competition in the decathlon today. He will compete in the 110 hurdles, the discus, the pole vault, the javelin and the 1,500.

Kyson Barden had a two-RBI home run but it wasn’t enough as the Twins fell to Reality Sports of Auburn, Wash., at the Palouse Summer Series at Harris Field.

Four other players had singles for Lewis-Clark (8-7) in the loss.

The Twins’ will continue play in the Palouse Summer Series against the Northwest Bandits at 4 p.m. today at Harris Field.

MERIDIAN — Carson Henson had two hits and three RBI for the Bucs, who split a doubleheader with the Canes of Meridian, Idaho, at Owyhee High School.

Henson also pitched the last 3 1/3 innings of Game 2 for Lewis-Clark (8-4-1) and earned the save in the process. He struck out three batters and allowed no hits and didn’t give up a walk.

Kendry Gimlin had two total hits for the Bucs across the doubleheader. Landon Ortiz had three RBI and a triple for Lewis-Clark in the second game.

Cubs split pair of games at Big Bucks tournament

LIBBY, Mont. — Morgan Boyer and Jimmy Woody had two hits apiece for the Lewis-Clark Cubs to split a pair of games at the Big Bucks tournament.

The Cubs (6-14-1) lost to the Central Alberta Wolves 10-1 and beat the host Libby Loggers 8-5.

Ty Collins and Grady Helm had two RBI apiece for Lewis-Clark against the Loggers.

The Cubs will continue competition in the Big Bucks tournament today.
