The Lewis-Clark Cubs earned their first victory in pool play at the Clancy Ellis Tournament with a 10-6 victory over the Moscow Blue Devils in American Legion baseball action at Harris Field.

Earlier in the day, the Cubs (8-24-1) gave up a 10-run third inning and lost to the Buhl Tribe 16-2 in non-pool play on the same field.

Lewis-Clark scored the first seven runs of the game against Moscow (6-30).

Ty Collins went 2-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI. Luke Crosby was a perfect 2-for-2 with two walks and scored twice.

Cody Blackwell and Jack Curry had two hits apiece for the Cubs.

The Blue Devils mounted a comeback attempt in the fourth inning.

The first three in the frame reached base for Moscow. After an out, a Trey Magallon single, a Conner Zollinger double and a Max Hain single combined to score four runs and cut the lead to three.

The Cubs would get all three runs back in the fourth and fifth innings.

Moscow will play in the opening game today against the Nampa Braves at 9 a.m. at Harris Field. The Lewis-Clark Cubs will play at noon against the Camas Prairie Zephyrs on the same field.

Pullman Patriots AAA tie one, drop one

SPOKANE — Mike Kiblen hammered three hits, including a home run and a double, as the Pullman Patriots AAA earned a tie and a loss in the Spokane Wood Bat Classic at Shadle Park High School.

The Patriots (11-18-1) fell to Expos Oye 11-1 before tying with the Tehama Bulls 8-8. Both games went six innings.

Cade Hill fanned three batters on the mound and drove in two runs in the tie.

Patriots AA top Merchants, Orofino nabs win earlier in day

The Pullman Patriots AA scored 11 runs in the first inning and held off a late comeback attempt to defeat the Orofino Merchants in non-pool play in the Clancy Ellis Tournament at Church Field.

The Patriots (10-15) jumped out early with the big opening inning on seven hits.

Orofino (14-9) scored 11 of the last 14 runs and had the tying run at second base. Aslan Burt induced a fly out to center by Jaeger Tondevold to end the game.

Emeric Anderson went 2-for-4 with four RBI for Pullman. Alton Burt went 2-for-3 with three RBI.

Aiden Olive filled the stat sheet for the Merchants going 2-for-3 with two walks, two runs and two RBI.

Earlier in the day Orofino closed out pool play with a 9-1 win against the Nampa Braves to finish second in Church bracket pool play.

Blake Barlow threw a complete game on 84 pitches. Barlow allowed five hits and one unearned run in the victory.

Tondevold went 2-for-2 with three runs scored.

Barlow had four hits and six RBI combined over the two games.

Orofino and Pullman are set to meet today at 3 p.m. in the battle of second place teams in the Cheff and Church brackets.

L-C Twins end Spokane tournament with loss

SPOKANE — The Lewis-Clark Twins fell behind early and lost to the Parkland Twins 10-3 in the Spokane Wood Bat Classic.

Parkland jumped out early with three runs in the first and six more in the second inning.

Brighton Schumacher and Bodee Thivierge combined for three scoreless innings in relief for Lewis-Clark (13-16).

Kyson Barden went 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored. David Goicoa was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBI.

The game was called in the bottom of the sixth inning with one out and Parkland leading by seven.

The Camas Prairie Zephyrs were unable to get on the scoreboard in an 11-0 loss to the Buhl Tribe in a Church bracket pool play game at Harris Field.

The loss locked the Zephyrs (12-11-1) in third place in the Church bracket and they will play the Lewis-Clark Cubs at noon today on the same field.

Tavon Ebert earned the first hit for Camas Prairie with a leadoff single in the second inning. Josh Gardner led off the third inning with a single, but in both instances, the runner was stranded at second.

SPOKANE — The Prairie Cardinals Black of Post Falls poured on eight runs in the final two innings to storm past the Asotin County Blues in a Spokane Wood Bat Classic game at West Valley High School.

Otis Phillips’ double and one run scored were the highlight for the Blues.
