TROY — Carsen Warner-Hall stopped a Hail Mary pass from host Troy as Genesee pulled off a back-and-forth 46-40 nonleague football victory on Friday.
Quarterback Jackson Banks totaled 256 yards passing plus 70 rushing for the victorious Bulldogs (2-1), running in the go-ahead score with a little over a minute left on the clock. Other offensive standouts for Genesee included Cadyn Brummer (183 yards receiving) and Cameron Holmes (79 rushing), while Vince Crowley led the defense with 9 1/2 tackles. Makhi Durrett dominated the scoring effort for the Trojans (1-2).

POTLATCH — The Loggers scored all of their points in the second and third quarters to pull away from Deary in a 36-14 nonleague victory.

LAKE ROOSEVELT, Wash. — Traveling Colfax opened its season with a dominant showing against nonleague foe Lake Roosevelt.
David Cofer, who was debuting in a new job coaching for the Bulldogs, said he felt his team “played really well traveling across the state,” and hailed “big contributions from Zach Cooper and Ryker Reed” on offense. He also noted that Colfax forced five turnovers while giving up only one.
“I was proud of our guys starting off the year that way against a good football team,” Cofer said.

SUNNYSIDE, Wash. — Pomeroy opened the season with a convincing 64-24 victory over LaConner in a nonleague game.
Jett Slusser for the Pirates (1-0) had seven rushes for 192 yards and four scores and was 4-of-7 passing for 89 yards and three touchdowns.
Kyzer Herres added 74 rushing yards and one score and Rory McKeirnan had a 71-yard touchdown run.
“We struggled a little tackling today and LaConner’s QB and RB got loose on us a couple times,” Pomeroy coach Kyle Kimble said. “But our inexperienced players are getting some valuable learning experience in our early season contests.”
Pomeroy led 38-0 after the first quarter and caused four turnovers.

KAMIAH — The host Kubs continued their winning start to the season in decisive fashion against nonleague challenger Council.
Everett Oatman (eight rushes, 101 yards, three touchdowns) and David Kludt (10-of-11 passing, 96 yards, two touchdowns) were the biggest offensive producers for the Kubs (2-0) and made 10 tackles and one interception apiece to boot.

GRANGEVILLE — The host Bulldogs gave up the opening touchdown of the game, but bounced back in style to rout Priest River in their first 3A Central Idaho League game of the season.
David Goicoa passed 12-for-23 to total 147 yards and three touchdowns for Grangeville (2-0, 1-0) — two of those on receptions by Thayn Williams. Cooper Poxleitner made 25 rushes for 175 yards and one Bulldog touchdown.
Coach Jeff Adams said he was “pretty happy with the way the kids responded in the second half” as they took over against their league foes.

Quarterback Seamus Wilson logged all 172 of those passing yards, while Lucius Comis received for more than 100, including 50 on an over-the-shoulder catch Holloway described as “incredible.”

PALOUSE — Garfield-Palouse battled hard, but lost its season opener to Liberty Christian of Colbert in a Southeast 1B League game.
Lane Collier of Gar-Pal had 240 rushinig yards on 32 carries and completed two touchdowns.
Bryce Pfaff was 8-of-15 passing for 164 yards and also had two rushing touchdowns.
“We played hard, the kids played really hard and did not give up at all,” said Garfield-Palouse coach Willy Woltering, who was coaching his first game back at the helm of the program after several years away. “We were able to run the ball better than I feared.”

Briggs Rambo connected with Matt Wemhoff for a 62-yard touchdown in the first quarter to give the Pirates (1-1) that early edge. The Pirates did not score again until the fourth quarter when Levi McElroy was able to punch it in from three yards out.
“Got beat by a decent Valley team,” Prairie coach Ryan Hasselstrom said. “It was a good learning experience for our guys and will help as we prepare for Whitepine League play.”

POMEROY — In what coach Adam Van Vogt called a “true team win” with eight different players recording at least one kill, the host Pirates won their season opener in five sets against DeSales of Walla Walla.
The set scores were 25-20, 28-26, 11-25, 23-25 and 15-11.
Taylor Gilbert had five kills, five digs and four aces in a well-rounded performance for Pomeroy.

KIRKLAND, Wash. — Lewis-Clark State survived in a five-set Cascade Conference match against Northwest (Kirkland, Wash.), winning by a final scoreline of 25-16, 15-25, 25-12, 20-25, 15-6.
Juliauna Forgach Aguilar led the Warriors (5-3, 2-1) with 22 kills. Anna Merrill and Taylor Boyce had seven kills each.
Abbey Neff had 21 assists for LC State. Natany Felix Guimaraes had 18 digs.
Cougars pounce on Eagles
PULLMAN — Washington State bounced back after dropping a tight opening set to top Eastern Washington in four sets at Bohler Gym.
The Cougs prevailed 23-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-19, leveling their season record so far at 2-2.
Katy Ryan headed up the WSU offense with 13 kills and a .345 hitting percentage, while Italia Bernal provided 43 assists and Emma Barbero put up 20 digs.
Vandals lose a pair
CEDER CITY, Utah — The Idaho Vandals dropped a pair of matches in the Southern Utah Tournament, a four-setter to UC Riverside and in straight sets to host Southern Utah.
UC Riverside won by set scores of 25-16, 18-25, 25-17, 25-21. Southern Utah rolled 25-15, 25-17, 25-20.
Zuzanna Wieczorek led the Vandals (0-5) with nine kills and two aces against the Highlanders.
Teniyah Leuluai had 33 assists and Victoria Zibecchi had 10 digs in the loss to the Thunderbirds.
