The Dahmen Family Foundation is sponsoring the 72nd annual Whing Ding and Sole Survivor golf tournaments being held today and Monday at Lewiston Golf and Country Club while the foundation’s namesake, Clarkston High alum Joel Dahmen, visits the valley on a week off from the PGA Tour.

This is the first time Dahmen’s charity has partnered with the Labor Day weekend event, which will also serve as a benefit for the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Lewis-Clark Valley.

Cougs fall in four to Houston

OMAHA, Neb. — Washington State continued its campaign at the Omaha Invite with a second consecutive defeat, mounting a rally before ultimately falling to nonconference foe Houston 25-11, 25-18, 16-25, 25-19 on Saturday.

The Cougars (0-2) collectively hit at a .121 clip, with 48 kills to 31 errors on 140 total attacks. Katy Ryan led the offense with 15 kills and added two blocks. Sage Brustad tallied 10 kills, while Weronika Wojdyla finished with nine.

Italia Bernal racked up 35 assists and 11 digs, while Emma Barbero totaled 20 digs and seven assists for the Cougs.

Vandals drop pair to close road trip

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — Idaho finished its first event of the season winless, dropping back-to-back matches against Southern Illinois and Chattanooga.

The Vandals first fell to the Salukis with a scoreline of 25-18, 25-17, 25-17, then to the Mocs 25-15, 25-13, 25-16.

Zuzanna Wieczorek led UI (0-3) in kills with 21 on the day, while Natalia Wielgus supplied 33 assists.

BONNERS FERRY, Idaho — Traveling Orofino held unbeaten Bonners Ferry to one goal in the first half, but the floodgates opened in the second en route to a blowout 3A Central Idaho League defeat for the Maniacs.

Orofino (0-2, 0-2) enjoyed eight saves from goalkeeper Garrett Sanders, while Bonners Ferry (3-0, 2-0) benefited from two goals by Eli Blackmore.
