LAS VEGAS — Led by Alexys Swedlund’s career performance, the Washington State women’s basketball team charged to an 85-59 victory over Wichita State in the Duel in the Desert tournament Thursday.
Swedlund connected on 7 of 12 tries from 3-point range and scored 27 points to pace the Cougars (5-6). WSU also got 27 points from Borislava Hristova and 19 points from Chanelle Molina.
“I just thought we competed better,” WSU coach Kamie Ethridge said. “We managed the game for 40 minutes. I loved our post play and our physicality in the post.”

SPOKANE — Zykera Rice scored 16 points to lead five Zags in double figure as No. 21 Gonzaga drilled Idaho in a nonleague game.
Mikayla Ferenz led Idaho with 14 points but was held to 2-for-10 shooting from long range, part of the Vandals’ 7-for-33 night.
Jenn Wirth collected 12 points and 10 rebounds for the Zags (11-1).
Lizzy Klinker made her debut for the Vandals, collecting a team-high eight rebounds with eight points in 16 minutes.

MOSCOW — Idaho junior offensive lineman Noah Johnson was named third-team FCS All-American on Thursday by Hero Sports.
Johnson played strong guard and was a first-team All-Big Sky selection.
Cougs add signee
PULLMAN — The Washington State football team made an addition Thursday to its list of early signees, defensive back Shahman Moore of El Camino College in California.
Moore, 6-foot-1 and 185 pounds, of Oakland, Calif., redshirted this past season and will enroll at WSU as a junior in January. He was named first-team all-league in 2017.
