The Lewis-Clark Cubs baseball team split an American Legion doubleheader with Moscow, keeping the Blue Devils off the scoreboard in the opener while winning 4-0, before falling 11-8 in the nightcap on Tuesday at Harris Field.

Lewis-Clark took its own sweet time getting on the scoreboard, scoring first in the fourth inning of the opener.

Preston Peterson "threw a phenominal game," Lewis-Clark coach Mark Medalia said, noting that his pitcher went the distance, allowing only three hits and walking two.

Medalia gave credit to Moscow for winning the second game.

"They're a good team," he said. "(After the first game) we turned right back around to the way we've been playing all year. And that's not very well. It's kind of like we took one step forward and two steps back."

The Cubs (11-13) play host to Orofino tonight, with a doubleheader slated to start at 5 p.m.

COEUR D'ALENE - Jake Munoz struck out eight to lock down Coeur d'Alene in the opener of the Twins' doubleheader. Lewis-Clark won the first contest 5-2, before mercy-ruling the nightcap 12-2 after an eight-run fifth inning.

"(He) attacked the strike zone," Twins assistant coach Kevin Maurer said of Munoz, noting that the pitcher had "good defense behind him. Really efficient game that first one."

Jaden Phillips and Josh Moore had two hits apiece, to go along with two RBI each.

Luke White had two RBI off a homerun in the fifth inning of the second game, adding to the Twins' mounting run total in the final inning of the game.

It was the capstone to a nightcap that didn't start out right for the Twins.

"(Coeur d'Alene) didn't like how the first one ended," Maurer said.

Coeur d'Alene logged a quick two runs in the first inning, holding Lewis-Clark scoreless until the third, when "we started to get back into it," said Maurer. "We caught on fire and it showed in the fifth."

Tyler Poe threw a complete game, this one a two-hitter, but "he actually didn't have that many strikeouts," said Maurer. "He was another pitcher who came out and attacked the zone."

The Twins (27-6) travel to Kennewick tomorrow to face the Southridge Bandits.

Blues 11-2, Ferris 1-6

ASOTIN - Wrapping up their first game with a 11-1 mercy-ruling after six innings, the Blues couldn't maintain the groove and fell 6-2 in the nightcap against Ferris of Spokane.

Cameron Bean, Mitch Miller and Terin Judy collected two RBI apiece in the opener, which ended after Judy's sole single of the game resulted in his two RBI and the conclusion of the game due to the 10-run rule.

Devin Fry delivered a complete game from the mound, limiting Ferris to three hits.

"It was nice to see him keep his walks down," Asotin coach Perry Black said, adding that the first game was "very clean. ... We hit the ball pretty well. Played pretty solid..."

The Blues jumped out to an early 1-0 lead after the first inning, maintaining it for the next three. In the fourth inning, Ferris logged three runs, upsetting Asotins precarious lead.

"We just couldn't string together timely hits," Black said. "(We) had multiple chances, just couldn't find that clutch hit."

Black praised the performance of Ferris pitcher Jake Robinson, who "kept us off balance.

"His off-speed stuff was really good tonight," Black said.

Josh Bonin collected two hits for Asotin in the second game.

The Blues (12-18, 4-4) will host Shadle Park for a doubleheader in Asotin.

College of Idaho names first female AD

CALDWELL, Idaho - The College of Idaho is restructuring leadership roles within its athletics department, with longtime COI coach and administrator Reagan Rossi set to become the Coyotes' first female athletic director.

Rossi, in her 18th year at the college, is being promoted after four years as associate athletic director. She previously served as head women's basketball coach for 13 years.

Marty Holly moves into the associate athletic director role, where he will oversee fundraising efforts. He also will assist Rossi with day-to-day operations and game management, serve as a department liaison to the admission office in recruiting student-athletes, work with faculty in the academic advancement of student-athletes, and invigorate the C of I Athletic Hall of Fame.

"I am extremely excited that President Borst and Marty have given me this opportunity to continue to be a part of this department and this College," Rossi said. "My hope is to continue following the path that Marty has laid out. We want to continue putting our coaches and student-athletes in position to be successful both in the classroom and on their playing field."

A native of Mukwanago, Wisconsin, Rossi earned a bachelor's degree in athletic training at Saint Ambrose University in 1994 and went on to earn a master's degree in sports administration from Morehead State University in 2000. She initially joined the C of I staff in 1995, assisting Todd Corman in reinstating women's basketball at the College. She returned in 2001 as head women's basketball coach, a post she held until 2014.

"I don't really consider myself out of coaching-I consider it more coaching the coaches and the athletics staff," Rossi said. "There will always be things that I miss about coaching, but I believe there are opportunities in my new position that can fill that void."
