Asotin students new and old yell their victory shout during an activity with the Ignite Program on the first day of school Wednesday in Asotin. Asotin has 70 new students in K-12, the most in the school district for the new school year. The Ignite Program is aimed at introducing freshmen to high school through junior and senior mentors who meet with the freshmen monthly. Freshman year is the grade that has the highest dropout rates at the school, according to Asotin Principal Brendan Johnson.
