Grass fires take off along Wawawai Road

A wildland firefighter works to put out a grass fire on the west side of Wawawai Road on Tuesday afternoon west of Clarkston. There were two separate grass fires along Wawawai Road, near mileposts 32 and 36, in Whitman County. The fires burned just a few acres and took a couple of hours to stamp out, according to Bill Tensfeld, director of emergency management in Whitman County. No structures were threatened. Whitman County Fire District 14, Asotin County Fire, Clarkston Fire and Whitman County Sheriff responded to the call.
