Theocratic extremists

J.C. Passmore Jr., of Elk City, would have us believe that Democrats are trying to force authoritarian religious law onto the people of the U.S. and, somehow, Democrats reflect the fanaticism of Hamas.

J.C., you are confused. That would be the theocratic extremists who are currently infesting the Republican Party, the real RINOs (Republicans in name only).

The evangelical nationalists (liberty this, freedom that ...) are working hard to legislate their extremist religious doctrines into laws (much like the Shariah or Islamic law), in Idaho and across the country. If there is any political body in America that can draw a parallel to Hamas and the Taliban it is those on the right attacking our democracy and personal freedoms.

Theocrats and white nationalists are and have been flocking here to Idaho in numbers, trying to turn what has historically been a moderate conservative state into their vision of an authoritarian, Christian enclave.

The Idaho Freedom Foundation and John Birch Society are promoting and funding these efforts to dismantle our government, public education and free elections in favor of theocratic rule. They envision an Idaho where public funds (vouchers) are used to fund the teaching of their dogma to children, the minority controls government and democracy is a dirty word.

When these theocratic actors can choose our elected officials, decide how we educate our children, what our children can read, how they can dress and what medical care they are allowed to receive, Mr. Passmore’s fears will have been realized.
