Going out big
Two underappreciated, age-related considerations for political candidates are the youngest and oldest. Self-preservation demands the young politician care past the next election cycle. An old person wise enough to consider the ideas of the young has the motivation for his impending end, a sense to “go big before I go.” Watching President Joe Biden getting things done in the face of the obstructionist party is inspiring.
When Republicans campaign on “stopping Biden,” I want to know, from what? The U.S. has the greatest economy in the world, wages are up with the lowest unemployment, high gross domestic product, lower prescription drug costs, 46,000 infrastructure projects, manufacturing in America again, historic numbers of small business startups, extended veteran benefits, gun-violence reduction measures and I could go on.
My favorite Biden “go-out-big” plan is taxing large corporations and the morbidly wealthy at the rate that teachers, police officers and construction workers pay. I like it. Tax evaders are parasitic and unpatriotic. Taxes pay for U.S. national security and well-being.
Tax fairness to repair the U.S. deficit and shore up the little guy is national security. Citizens accessing affordable healthcare are healthier, ready for challenges and able to contribute. Education is national security or we’re a sitting-duck nation of idiots. Stimulating domestic manufacturing and supporting well-being wages secures economic power for workers and protects domestic supply chains. Building out alternate energy supplies is national security and keeps us from repeatedly warring over oil.
Tax the traitors and go big before you go, Joe.
