Wayne Isaac Shriver passed peacefully surrounded by his family Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2012. Born in Orofino to Ralph and Edith Shriver in 1925, he was the youngest of four sons.
He graduated from Orofino High School in 1943. During the summers of 1942 and 1943 he worked for the U.S. Forest Service on lookouts on the Clearwater National Forest. He served in the Merchant Marines in World War II. After the war he worked for the post office in Orofino and was postmaster for two years. His remaining working years were spent as an electrical contractor in the Orofino area.
Wayne served on the Orofino city council and as mayor, belonged to the Rotary Club and was an early member of OCI. He loved and was loved by many.
He married Corrie Calland in March 1947. Wayne is survived by his wife, Corrie, at the home; son Ron and Leslie Shriver of Orofino; daughter Debbie Heebink of Spokane; son Ken of Big Lake, Alaska; 12 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers Stan, Morris and Neil.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Pine Hills Funeral Chapel, 939 Michigan Ave., Orofino.
