Our friend Wayne H. Allgood, 92, passed away peacefully at St. Marys Hospital in Cottonwood, Monday, Dec. 5, 2011.
Waynes life started in Montezuma, Iowa, July 9, 1919, to Alfred F. Allgood and Lula Andrews Allgood. He enjoyed work and farm living with his sisters, brothers and grandparents. He graduated high school at Oskaloosa, Iowa, and moved on to California near Los Angeles.
He joined the Maritime Service, which included moving troops during World War II, including transporting the terribly wounded men and women from the Pacific Theatre.
Wayne was a machinist, which he felt was a wise career choice. His friend David Welker considered Wayne an artist, a master machinist and an independent cuss! Wayne said he made all kinds of things for all kinds of people. Through his shop, Wayne created injection molds, including parts for Rain Bird Sprinklers, and equipment for the semi-conductor industry. His friend stated that anything Wayne produced was always top quality, and quipped, just like his name: Allgood.
Eva Louisa Smith, a special girl friend from Oskaloosa recalls how she and Wayne loved to dance. They won dance contests while in their teens, and traveled distances to dance at ballrooms with famous big bands playing.
After his years in the service, Wayne married Ethyl Rollo, a registered nurse. They lived in Whittier, Calif., and they enjoyed dancing, playing cards, visits with family and friends. After both retired, they moved to Davis, Calif., to be near Ethyls sister and family. Following Ethyls death, Wayne moved to Grangeville to be with his sister, Neva Hanes Lindsey. Being so amiable, he was well-liked in Grangeville.
Wayne was an avid golfer. He mentioned he had a number of golf hole-in-ones to his credit. He once made a hole-in-one, and then made another at the same hole the following week.
He appreciated the care he received during the past several months at Cottonwoods St. Marys Hospital, Syringa Hospital, Grangeville Health and Rehab., and Meadowlark homes.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Lula; his wife Ethyl; sisters Lavina and Neva; and brothers Lloyd, Merle and Clyde. Wayne was the youngest of the Allgood children. His survivors include nieces Sandra Kool of Oskaloosa, Iowa, Marie Pearson of Redwood City, Calif., and Marilyn Allgood of North English, Iowa; nephews, Charles Allgood of Winfield, Iowa, and Donald Allgood of Burlington, Iowa. Special supportive friends include David and Gretchen Smith, Ellamae and Jerry Holes, Larry Wassmuth and Ray and Mary Majeski.
No special benefit was mentioned by Wayne, but he would value help and encouragement to youngsters playing golf, baseball and other sports.
At his request, cremation will take place. His ashes will be interred with those of his wife Ethyl at Rose Hills Cemetery in Whittier, Calif. A memorial service for Wayne will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday, at Blackmer Funeral Home in Grangeville. Join us for coffee and fellowship following the service at the home of Jerry and Ellamae Holes, 525 Elk, Grangeville. Services are under the direction of the Blackmer Funeral Home of Grangeville.
