Vivian Ivy (Evans) Byers, 79, passed away Sunday, Feb. 28, 2015, at Tri-State Memorial Hospital in Clarkston.

Vivian was born to Frank and Ellen Evans on Sept. 18, 1936, in Portland, Ore. She graduated from Benjamin Franklin High School in Portland, Ore., in 1954. She was involved in multiple school social clubs and was an honorary member of Job's Daughters.

Vivian married Robert R. Ekstrom of Portland, Ore., on Sept. 10, 1954 (divorced 1970), and had three daughters, Terri "Pinki," Susan and Kristen. She later married Barney L. Byers in August 1970 (divorced 1985).

During her early married years, she was a homemaker and Girl Scout leader. After marrying Barney, she worked as a bookkeeper for Grimes in Clarkston and an auto parts store in Lewiston. In retirement, she volunteered as a "Blue Angel" at Tri-State Memorial Hospital in Clarkston. She received a pin of recognition for 4,500 volunteer hours and was working toward her goal of 5,000 hours this year. In 2013, Vivian was awarded the President's Volunteer Service Award with White House recognition. Her hobbies included ceramics, arts and crafts, bowling, gingerbread houses and playing bridge.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Frank and Ellen Evans; and daughter Terri Lee "Pinki" Stanaway.

She is survived by her two daughters, Susan Gehrke and spouse Mike of Asotin, and Kristen Hale and spouse Eduard of Kalispell, Mont.; five grandchildren, Kyle Stanaway, John Gehrke, Kevan Gehrke, Lindsey Hale and Nathan Hale; and six great-grandchildren, Alicia, Kandis, Melody, Aria, Colin and Jeffrey.

The family invites you to a memorial service at 3 p.m. April 10 at the Episcopal Church of the Nativity, on the corner of Eighth Street and Eighth Avenue in Lewiston, with a reception to follow.
