Sera Young, a Lewiston resident since 1977, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2024, of natural causes at her home. Sera was born Sept. 24, 1944 in Western Samoa. She was a well-known figure in the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley, as she worked in the grocery business for nearly 40 years, retiring from the Lewiston Albertsons. Sera was also a business owner of the World of Trophies on 21st Street in Lewiston.
Sera was an avid sports fan her entire life. She played softball for many years on several different teams and was usually the pitcher. When not playing, she was going to her kids and grandchildren’s games. Sera went to many Washington State University and University of Idaho football games over the years along with other sporting events.
Sera was married for 51 years to Rick Young, a retired Lewiston teacher and coach. The couple lived and worked in New Zealand for many years before moving to the United States in 1977.
They raised three boys, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Max is the oldest, and is married to Macherie and has one son. They live on the north island of New Zealand.
Richard, who predeceased his mother in death in 2018, lived in Lewiston and like his mother was a longtime employee of the Lewiston Albertsons. He had three children, Tyler (who has also passed), Kayla and John both of Lewiston.
Aitken “Ike” is married to Cyndi and lives in Lewiston. He is the owner of The World of Trophies and a football coach at Lewiston High School. Cyndi is employed at Regence BlueShield. They have three children, Ryan (Nikki, Rowan, Luca) of Lewiston, Lunden (Brett) of Iowa and Michael of Boise.
Sera spent much of her retirement time playing bingo at the Eagles and the casino. She was also involved with Line dancing at the Community Center, the Elks and the Wrangler. In past years Sera and her hubby traveled in the United States, the Pacific Islands and on cruises. They had many camping trips mixed with the travel. Their favorite area was around Elk River and Pierce.
