Sandra R. Johnson-Rollins “Disaster Sandy” passed away Friday, April 19, 2024, at TriState Health in Clarkston. Sandy was born Feb. 22, 1945, to John T. and Vicky E. Renfroe in Oakland, Calif. She graduated in 1963 from Old Rochester Regional High School in Mattapoisett, Mass.
She married Michael A. Rollins in May of 1998 in Kendrick. She worked for Latah County in disaster services as administrative secretary from 1995-2003, then she was promoted to disaster services coordinator from 2003-2014. Sandy initiated the Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program for Latah County in 1998 and taught volunteers basic skills such as light search and rescue to assist first responders in times of emergency, which was her passion. Upon retirement, Sandy maintained CERT for Latah County as the volunteer program manager.
Prior to this employment, she worked in public relations for several companies. Her first job after graduation high school was administrative secretary at the U.S. Coast Guard Headquaters, Law Enforcement Division in D.C. 1963-1967. Sandy enjoyed helping others, being with family and friends, and the love of animals. Her hobbies included crafts, crossword puzzles and having fun in life.
She is survived by her husband, Michael, and leaves behind from a previous marriage two sons, Wallace (Melissa) and William (Denise). She is also survived by two grandchildren, Steven and Elizabeth, and two great-grandchildren, Tristan and Oliver, who all reside in Virginia.
Sandy was preceded in death by her parents and brother, John Charles.
At Sandy’s direction, there will be no funeral service. She would request donations be made to the Shriners Children Hospital, Best Friends Animal Society or to any organization that helps animals.
