Robert “Bob” Arthur Homer Sr. passed away Thursday, Nov. 15, 2018, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston after a brief illness. He was born June 9, 1936, in Salt Lake City to Arthur and Beverly Homer.
Robert met Jeanne Edith DeMerse, and after a whirlwind, two-week romance they were married June 6, 1959, in Reno, Nev., and were happily married for 47 years until Jeanne’s passing in 2006. Robert later found happiness again when he met Carol Causland, and the two were married in Coeur d’Alene.
Robert was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a dedicated and hardworking man. He served 20 years in the U.S. Navy, retiring in 1976. He then moved to Clarkston and started a career as a boiler inspector with Hartford Steam Boiler, where he finished out his career.
His favorite pastimes were camping, fishing, building models and tinkering on anything he could get his hands on. He was a member of the Clarkston Second Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Robert is survived by his wife, Carol Homer of Clarkston; his three children, Johnny Fernandez of Mount Vernon, Wash., Robert Homer Jr. of Pullman and Linda Homer of Clarkston; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren, with a third on the way.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Jeanne Homer, in 2006, and his parents, Arthur Homer in 1990 and Beverly Homer in 2012.
Robert was a kind, generous soul and a brilliant man who was full of rich history and other deep knowledge in all areas. Every conversation with him you would take away some new piece of information you hadn’t known. He loved to tell stories of his childhood in Big Piney, Wyo., his years traveling in the Navy and stories of his children as they were growing up. His stories will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.
A celebration of life is pending.
