Richard Bartlett Earl, 80, of Lewiston, passed away Aug. 11, 2012, at LifeCare of Lewiston. Richard was born July 16, 1932, to Bernice Tillisher and Virgil Lout in Albany, Calif. He attended Eureka city schools and graduated from Eureka Adult Education.
He served in the U.S. Navy for 22 years from 1949-71. He was a ship serviceman 2nd class. He received the National Defense Service Medal twice, the Purple Heart, the Vietnam Service Medal 3 stars, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. He also worked at Eureka Senior High School and Humboldt State University as a custodian.
During his life he was married to Diane Patrick, who later passed away, Cindy Cosgrove and Gloria J. Tarrant.
Richard is survived by his daughter, Le-Ora Swanson and Ty and grandchildren, L-E and Elias, all of Lewiston; daughter La-Nora Howard and Barry of Lewiston and grandchildren, Jherico, Travis and William; daughter Shannon and Tom Kelly and grandchildren Stephanie, Gary, Clay, Angie and Dorothy, and 11 great-grandchildren, all of Kahlotus, Wash.; sister Bernice Lindseth and nephews Shane and Shawn, all of Lebannon, Ore.; brother David and Diane Earl and nieces Becky, Wendy and Brenda, all of Southern California; brother Eric and Sandy Pena of Stockton Springs, Maine, and niece and nephew Erica and Craig of Eureka, Calif.; former wife, Gloria Tarrant and stepkids Jo, Jeanna, Jesse and Vanessa, all of Fortuna, Calif.; and former wife, Cynthia Cosgrove of Fortuna, Calif.; and daughter Maureen Earl and two great-grandchildren, Angel and Billy, all of Oregon. He was preceded in death by his mother, Bernice Denton; father Virgil Lout; brother-in-law Dennis Lindseth; and former wife, Diane Patrick.
The Honor Guard and urn placement will be at 1 p.m. Aug. 27 at OceanView Cemetery in Eureka, Calif. Following the service will be a celebration of life and potluck at Sequoia Park in Eureka and also at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Hereth Park in Lewiston.
