Pauline C. (Fuchs) Schlader, beloved wife, mother, gran, sister, aunt and friend, passed away at home Monday, June 24, 2024.

Pauline was born March 14, 1932, to Leo J. and Dorothy M. (Lauby) Fuchs in Nezperce. She attended St. Anthony’s Catholic School through eighth grade and graduated from Nezperce High School in 1950.

She married Orval J. Schlader on Feb. 18, 1952. They made their home in Nezperce. Pauline was a loving mother and outstanding homemaker. She enjoyed gardening, entertaining family and friends, and a good game of cards. She took great pride in watching her grandchildren’s sporting events.

After retiring, Pauline and Orval became Arizona snowbirds and made many new friends. In their later years, they downsized to an apartment in Cottonwood, and then finally to the home of their daughter and son-in-law, Leah and Pete Prigge.

Pauline is survived by her husband of 72 years, Orval; children, Paul (Val), Anne (Terry) Crea, Joan (Kyle) Way, John (Shelly), Phil (Susan), Leah (Pete) Prigge and Scot (Shelley); 27 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; sister, Geraldine Miller; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Jim Lance, Mary Lou Fuchs, Gary Schlader, Irene Schlader, Lois Lanier, Mike and Nadine Reilly; and many nieces and nephews and several bonus grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Leo and Dorothy; siblings and their spouses, Mary Lance, Dolores Wassmuth (Vince), Richard Fuchs, Clarence Fuchs (Angie); brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Duane Miller, Beverly Knight (Bill), Dale Schlader, Dave Lanier.

The family would like to thank all the hospice workers for the kindness and care given to Pauline during her last months of life. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be made to Syringa Hospice, 607 W. Main St., Grangeville, ID 83530.

Pauline was a devout Catholic all her life, with a strong devotion for the Eucharist and praying the rosary. Mom asked for prayers upon her death.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 5, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Cottonwood. A rosary will be recited at 11 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. Immediately following the Mass, the family will have a private burial at Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Nezperce.
