Paul William Huffman passed away Monday, Nov. 13, 2017, at Royal Plaza in Lewiston. He was 92.

Paul was born Feb. 22, 1925, in Elkhart, Ind., to John E. and Grace M. Huffman. He grew up in Nappanee, Ind., and graduated from high school in 1944. He went on to attend Purdue University, graduating in 1949, with a degree in forestry.

In 1946, Paul married Phyllis L. Jones in Kalispell, Mont. The couple moved to Lewiston in 1949 after his graduation. They divorced in 1972, and she passed away in 1994. Paul and Gladys F. Ament were married June 16, 1973, in Lewiston, and she survives him. They were married for 44 years.

Paul worked for Potlatch Forests Inc. when he moved to Lewiston, and he retired from the company in 1986. After his retirement, he sold flag poles and became known as the "flag-pole guy" in the Lewiston-Clarkston Valley.

Paul was an avid pool player in many leagues until his legs gave out. He also was a member of the Eagles and Elks lodges and the International Order of Foresters. He was an avid hunter and fisherman who passed along his love of the outdoors to his children.

Paul is survived by his wife, Gladys; children Patricia Appleford, John Huffman, Richard Huffman and James Huffman; stepdaughters Caryl Mackey and Vickee Gockley; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Grace Huffman; sister Jane Sample; stepdaughters Debra Armstrong and Julie Mathews; and grandson Carson Huffman.

No public services are planned at this time and a private memorial will be held for family at a later date.
