O'Lynn R. "Lynn" Jones passed away Sunday, Aug. 23, 2015, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center surrounded by friends and family from a long-term illness. He was 74 years old.
Lynn was born Sept. 10, 1940, to Chester Olin and Audry Jean Jones. He served four years in the U.S. Navy and upon returning to Lewiston he worked for Chevron for many years. He then enjoyed his last working years and retired from Ida-Vend/Pepsi-Cola.
Lynn was an outdoor enthusiast. He looked forward to his annual hunting trips with his sons, family and friends. The trips included a rest break hitting golf balls on U.S. Highway 12 across the Clearwater River, which in turn, is blessed with many golf balls. Lynn also had a particular special talent at losing at one of his favorite games, 1 to 1,000. Other activities included fishing, camping, mushroom hunting and men's golf league at Bryden Canyon. He spent much of his retirement years at the family cabin on Freeman Creek with his two favorite canine companions, Abby and Sammie. Lynn enjoyed announcing at the annual Fourth of July Freeman Creek Golf Tournament, "When in doubt, use your seven iron!"
Lynn loved reading Stephen King in his "personal library" at home.
Lynn always loved the stars and counting satellites in the sky with his kids and grandchildren and he would always make a game out of it, announcing "$1 for the first satellite!" Lynn also loved his Fox News.
Lynn is survived by eight siblings, Donzella Leahy, Marlys Connerley, Yvonne Harrel, Gary Jones, Roy Jones, Doyle Jones, Arvin Jones and Myrna Dover; and his children, David Jones, Douglas Jones, Drew Jones; and their mother, Carol Brown. Lynn is also survived by three stepchildren, Elisa Havens, Kelly Skogrand and Charley Van Troba; and Lynn's wife, Sandra Jones; as well as 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two children, Debra Jones and Daniel Jones; and his father, Chester Jones.
A celebration of life will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 26 at the Moose Lodge in Clarkston with a memorial dinner to be served at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that any memorial donations be made in Lynn's name to the Lewis-Clark State College golf team, the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Lewis Clark Valley or to Helping Hands Pet Rescue.
Lynn, as a son, husband, brother, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, you will be missed.
