Noel C. Randall of Moscow died Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at Gritman Medical Center. He was 75.
Noel was born Sept. 19, 1937, at Idaho Falls, to Walt and Leone Waters Randall. He grew up and attended school at Rigby, Idaho, where he ran track. Noel was active in Scouting, attaining the rank of Eagle Scout, earning 61 merit badges and was also the recipient of both the Bronze and Silver Palm. He came to the University of Idaho, where he was in the ROTC program and graduated in 1961 with his degree in architecture. While at the University of Idaho he met and married Judy Cranney on Aug. 6, 1959. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden, Utah, Temple.
After his graduation, he was commissioned as an Army second lieutenant and later that year went to Germany with the transportation corps. They later served in Fort Campbell, Ky., Fort Eustice, Va., Fort Bragg, N.C., Fort Lewis, Wash., and served two tours in Vietnam and one in Korea. After 14 years of active duty service, they returned to Moscow where Noel went to work at the employment office. He was active in the National Guard Reserves for several years as well. In 1978, Noel began his career at the Moscow Post Office, first as a mail carrier and then as a clerk until his retirement in 1997.
Noel was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served in various callings. He was a member of the American Legion, where he served as treasurer for many years. Noel enjoyed collecting trains and collected, refurbished and sold many trains throughout his lifetime, gardening, military history, reading and attending his grandchildren's sport and other events. He will be remembered for his willingness and ability to fix almost anything. Noel lived life to the fullest and will also be remembered for his contagious smile, his friendly manner, his teasing and generosity.
Noel is survived by his wife, Judy, at their home; his son and daughter-in-law, Eric and Michelle Randall of Moscow; and his daughter and son-in-law, Shawna and Bob Froerer of Huntsville, Utah. His grandchildren are Rachel (Clint) Child, Danny (Kelsie) Froerer, Tyler Randall, Aaron Froerer, Morgan Randall, Dane Randall, Abby Froerer, Jake Randall and Ellie Randall. He also leaves his great-grandson, Kade Child.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Moscow LDS Stake Center, 1657 S. Blaine St. Bishop Matt Skinner will conduct the service, and burial with military honors will follow at the Moscow Cemetery. There will be a viewing from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Short's Funeral Chapel.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Moscow Ambulance Fund.
