Mildred B. Keeler, of Lewiston, died Saturday, Oct. 9, 2010, at Royal Plaza Retirement Center in Lewiston. She was 92.
Mildred was born Nov. 12, 1917, to Bonnie Ola Foster Burkhart and Rolla Henry Burkhart, in Knights Station, Mo. She attended Centennial School in Carthage, Mo., and graduated from high school. Mildred and her family moved to Kellogg, Idaho, in 1933, where she met and married Leslie C. Tallon on June 20, 1937. They divorced in 1942.
She married James R. Keeler Sept. 12, 1942. Mildred and Jim moved to Richmond, Calif., in 1944 and then to Tracy, Calif., in 1946.
She worked at F.S. Rasco, a dime store, in Tracy until 1947, J.C. Penney in Tracy from 1947 to 1948, Classified Food Service in Tracy from 1948 to 1950, Gillmyn's Dry Goods in Tracy from 1951 to 1953, and California Classified Food Service from 1954 to 1957. She moved to Antioch, Calif., in 1957, where she worked in food service for the school district. Mildred and Jim moved to Atascadero, Calif., in 1966, and then to Pismo Beach, Calif., in 1971. They moved to Clarkston in 1986.
Mildred was baptized at the First Christian Church in Carl Junction, Mo., in 1930 then rebaptized in 1948 at the First Brethren Church in Tracy. She joined the First Christian Church in Clarkston in 1987.
She is survived by her husband, James, of Lewiston; sons Charles T. and Andrea R. Tallon of Lewiston, and Ronald D. and Judy Keeler of Victor, Mont.; grandchildren Kevin Keeler of Clayton, Calif., Lori Moreles of Pittsburg, Calif., Sabrina Hughes of Danville, Calif., and Thomas Tallon of Brentwood, Calif.; great-grandchildren Sarah and Kayla Tallon, Spencer, Quinton and Brittney Hughes, and Nicholas and Stephanie Keeler; sister Charlotte E. Swain of Gresham, Ore.; brother Robert D. and Joan Burkhart of Spokane; sister-in-law Nancy Burkhart of Pinehurst, Idaho; and many nieces and nephews.
Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, Rolla and Bonnie Burkhart; brothers Wilber, Roy and Harold Burkhart; sister Delora Schulhauser; and an infant son, Edwin Rolla Tallon.
Cremation has taken place, and no services will be held.
The family suggests memorials be made to the Asotin County Food Bank.
