Mary Jane Dawson Conover died peacefully Saturday, Feb. 11, 2012, surrounded by family. Mary Jane Conover was born in Coeur d'Alene July 2, 1924, to Frank and Nellie Dawson. At an early age, the family moved to Lewiston. She attended St. Stanislaus Catholic school and graduated from Lewiston High School in 1942. Mary Jane attended two years at Lewis-Clark Normal School.
Mary Jane married Eugene Conover Sept. 11, 1946. They made their home in Lewiston. Eugene preceded her in death Oct. 7, 1995. They had four children, Cheryl A. Hart and Bob of Clarkston, Dennis E. Conover and Debra of Lewiston, Frank Conover of Boise, and Robert Conover, who died in 1975.
She worked for Webster Photo Studio in the early '40s and then worked as a long-distance telephone operator for Pacific Northwest Bell until operations stopped in Lewiston and she retired.
Mary Jane enjoyed bridge, golfing and bowling. She was a member of the Clarkston Golf and Country Club and served as president of the Women's Golf Association at Clarkston Golf and Country Club two different years. She was a member of the Elks, Moose and Lewiston Eagles.
She was a communicant at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church all of her life and a member of the Catholic Daughters. She had been active in Bluebirds, Camp Fire, Cub Scouts and a member of PTA for many years.
She had four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Lewiston. Burial will follow at Normal Hill Cemetery. Vassar-Rawls Funeral Home of Lewiston is in charge of arrangements.
