PULLMAN -- Marion Eugene Ensminger, a former Washington State University professor, died of causes related to age last Sunday at his Clovis, Calif., home. He was 90.

He was chairman of the WSU animal science department and was known around the world for his educational programs and publications on animal husbandry.

He joined the WSU faculty in 1941 and became chairman of the animal science department in 1944. Ensminger served as chairman until 1962.

He was born May 28, 1908, at Stover, Mo. He received bachelor and master's degrees from the University of Missouri and his doctorate from the University of Minnesota.

Ensminger was president of the AgriServices Foundation from 1962 until his death. He conducted seminars, or ag-tech schools, in 69 countries, wrote or updated 22 books and worked as a consultant.

He and his wife, Audrey, established a scholarship at WSU for upper division students, and in 1983 the university honored him by naming its beef center the M.E. Ensminger Beef Cattle Center.

Survivors in addition to his wife include a son, John of New York, N.Y.; a sister, Aileen Bennett of Stilwell, Okla.; and brother, Leonard of Alabama.

His funeral will be conducted today at Clovis.
