Lyle Strong passed away Monday, Nov. 27, 2023, at the age of 89 years.

Lyle was born Sept. 11, 1934, in Potlatch to Arthur and Alice (McClure) Strong. He graduated from Potlatch High School.

Lyle worked for Potlatch Forests Inc., (PFI) which later became Potlatch Corp., from 1952 to 1991. During that time period, he served in the United States Army from 1956 to 1962. His time in the Army took him to Keflavik, Iceland where his second oldest son, Leslie, was later stationed as a member of the United States Navy.

Lyle’s work for Potlatch Corporation entailed working at the Potlatch site until its closure. He then transferred to the Coeur d’Alene plant. This was followed by his transfer to the Lewiston plant where he would ultimately retire.

Lyle was recognized for his work ethic and integrity. He was an accomplished lumber grader and personnel manager. Lyle was often involved in training graders along with his other duties. He was always ready to throw down a one-liner with his quick wit, followed up with a quick smile or quiet chuckle whether at work or with one of the many people to whom he gave a helping hand.
