Lewis Hewett passed away July 6, 2012, at Clarkston Care Center. He was born July 11, 1922, at Southwick, to Harlen and Bertha Hewett.
Lewis attended Clarkston school grades one through 12 and Lewiston Business College, where he met and later married Maxine Carpenter in January of 1942. They made their home at Webb Ridge on the ranch. Later, they built their home at Spalding.
Lewis worked as a logger, farmer and cattle rancher. He was successful at all, but most remembered for his hard work ethic that he instilled in his children.
Lewis was a veteran of World War II where he worked in the U.S. Army as an airplane mechanic.
Lewis and Maxine enjoyed their long life together celebrating their 70th anniversary this year. They traveled the world together by plane, cruise ship and motor home. Lewis enjoyed dancing, fishing, baseball, watching boxing and his children and grandchildren play sports. In his later years, Lewis and his brother Earl tore up the golf course!
Lewis loved his dogs dearly, and they loved him back. He was a real gentleman and a genuine cowboy.
Lewis was preceded in death by his son, Gary and daughter, Linda Calkins. He is survived by his wife, Maxine; sons Brad and wife Phyllis, and Ron and wife Pepsi; son-in-law Tinker Calkins; brother Earl and wife Elva Hewett; 10 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
He was a member of the Lapwai Presbyterian Church.
We will celebrate his life and funeral service at 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 11, his birthday, at Malcom's Brower-Wann Funeral Home in Lewiston. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Cancer Society.
