Kenneth Eugene Crawford passed away Friday, Sept. 17, 2010, at Lewiston Rehabilitation and Care Center; he was 84. Kenneth attended schools at Spalding and Lapwai.
Prior to joining the service, Kenneth worked for the railroad in Salt Lake City. Then he went into the U.S. Navy and served for three years. Kenneth started his naval career at Farragut Training Center, in Knoxville, Tenn., and became a gunner's mate third class. He was assigned to the USS Triumph, AM323. During World War II he served in the western Pacific until the end of the war.
Kenneth later returned to Lewiston, and went to work for the Camas Prairie Railroad. His duties for the railroad included maintaining the tracks and shoveling coal for the engines. Kenneth was promoted to engineer in 1961 and piloted trains from Lewiston throughout the region until an injury resulted in his retirement.
Kenneth married Thelma Westfall and later divorced in 1964.
Kenneth enjoyed fishing on the Clearwater so much that it was his greatest joy.
Kenneth is survived by his children, Delorse Amirsehi of Pierce, Dorothy Rassmussen of Woodburn, Ore., and Charles Crawford of Lewiston; Kenneth's sister, Phyllis Fey of Kendrick; grandchildren Andrew Crawford of Boise, Katrina Halupwski of Keizer, Ore., Corey Rasmussen of Woodburn, and Michelle Crawford of Moscow; as well as three great-grandchildren.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents, Charles Crawford and Edna Weathermon; stepfather, Boone Weathermon; brothers Vern and Donald, and Curt Rassmussen; and Ken's grandson.
There will be a service for Kenneth at 10 a.m. Saturday at Malcom's Brower-Wann Funeral Home in Lewiston, officiated by the Rev. Brad Bramlett. Burial will follow at a later date.
