1923 2009

Sarah Jane Hollenbeck-Doolin passed away Friday, Aug. 14, 2009, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

She was born Oct. 12, 1923, on a remote ranch near Anatone, to George and Ethel Hollenbeck. She grew up in Asotin with one sister and three brothers. Married at a young age, Jane became the mother of four children over the succeeding years. She moved to Boise and raised her children with a strong determination and hard work, setting an example that no matter what obstacles she encountered, life was also full and happy if you persevere. Her enduring philosophy was "leave a lot of happy tracks" and this is her legacy.

With the birth of her first grandchild, she became known as "Grandma Jane" and many old friends called her "Janie." But to everyone she was special, unique and wise. Her wisdom and counsel were sought and experienced by family and friends.

Mom worked for Idaho First National Bank for 32 years, retiring in 1986. She was a talented poet. She loved Idaho history, Indian lore, western music and dancing, but most of all she loved family, friends and her "partner," her little dog Bandit. She loved her home and enjoyed watching the bunnies on her lawn, feeding wild birds and squirrels, and watching Canada geese flocks in migration and the airplanes. She enjoyed playing cards, bowling and darts, and she had a strong sense of adventure and traveled at any opportunity.

Only time moves on to the next scene. Memory remains part of the heart forever. Those we love remain with us, for love itself lives on, and cherished memories never fade. Those we love can never be more than a thought apart, for as long as there is memory, they'll live on in the heart.

She is survived by her brother, Charlie Allen Hollenbeck; children and spouses, Elaine and Dean Readmond, Larraine and Robert Redondo, Eldeane Keeler, and Eldon and Jane Sailor; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband W.C. (Curt) Doolin; sister Mary Hollenbeck Lockhart; brothers Harold Lloyd (Jack) Hollenbeck and Marvin George (Dick) Hollenbeck; sisters-in-law Ora May (Pete) Hollenbeck and Alice Hollenbeck; grandson Marcus David Sailor; and son-in-law David B. Keeler.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Alden Waggoner Funeral Chapel, 5400 Fairview Ave., in Boise. Burial will follow at Dry Creek Cemetery. A viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
