Ivan Johnson, 90, Lewiston

Ivan Johnson, also affectionately called Johnny, Red, Bud and Roy, went to his heavenly home Saturday, Aug. 15, 2009, in Lewiston. Ivan was 90.

Ivan was born Oct. 23, 1918, at Kendrick, to John and Florence Johnson. Ivan graduated from Kendrick High School in 1940.

He joined the U.S. Army in 1940, and served as a cook in England and France during World War II. He was discharged December 1945, reaching the rank of mess sergeant.

Ivan married Eleanor L. Black in 1963 in Lewiston and they later moved to Lapwai. They had one son who died at birth. Eleanor passed away March 1993 at age 74.

Ivan worked on the wood side of Potlatch Corp. (now Clearwater Paper) in Lewiston until he retired.

He continued to live in Lapwai until his health forced him to move to Lewiston. Ivan resided there until his death.

Ivan had two sisters who preceded him in death; they were Lois Johnson and Iva Johns.

Ivan has four living sisters, Pearl Wolf, Mary Bartlett, Joye Swan and Wanda Hoskins; plus many nieces and nephews.

He pursued many passions, hunting, fishing, rock collecting, basketball, guitar playing, gardening and singing. He also helped build the Lapwai Assembly of God Church, where he attended worship.

Ivan's funeral will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Lapwai Assembly of God Church, immediately followed by burial at the Kendrick Cemetery.
